Connect to a Windows shared folder from a Mac (using Samba)

One method of accessing folders & files on a remote Windows server from a Mac is by connecting directly to a share via "Samba."

1) From a Remote Desktop session on your Windows server, right-click the folder you want to share in Windows Explorer and select "Share..."

2) Add the desired user(s) with their appropriate permission level, and click "Share"

3) Provided you have properly shared the folder and granted your user account permissions to the folder, you may now connect directly to the share from your Mac via Finder > Go > Connect to Server.

4) Enter "smb://server_ip_address/sharename" as the "Server Address:" (add to Favorites if desired), and click Connect.
NOTE: Substitute your server's IP address and folder name appropriately.

5) If the connection is successful (VPN required), you will be prompted for your username & password. Enter your username / password for the Windows account to which you granted the share permissions.

6) If everything was done correctly, the share should now be mounted in Finder.
